ADA
It is estimated that more than fifty million Americans have some kind of physical, sensory, cognitive, or mental disability. The Americans with Disability Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination of individuals on the basis of disability, was signed into law in July of 1990. Title III of the ADA addresses accessibility of public places such as restaurants, hotels, theaters, retail stores, schools and day care centers, libraries, parks, museums, and offices. All new construction, which includes modifications or alterations, must be fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). Just as important, these guidelines may require existing facilities to remove barriers to come into compliance with the ADAAG when it is “readily achievable”.
NorthStar’s design professionals can help you design your project to be in compliance with state and federal accessibility requirements. From entry ramps to restroom facilities, we have experience with a wide variety of accessibility needs.
