Build It Green - GreenPoint Rated

What exactly is GreenPoint Rated? It is a green building certification offered by Build It Green primarily for residential and some limited commercial business uses. What does GreenPoint Rated have to offer me and why should I be interested in this program? GreenPoint Rated offers an independent verification that the residence has used environmentally friendly building techniques and methods. The verification looks at such items as:

  • Community Design and Planning
  • Energy Efficient Construction
  • Interior Air Quality
  • Renewable Resources
  • Water Efficient Construction

How does GreenPoint Rated differ from LEED? The two programs are offered by different organizations and require implementation of different guidelines. LEED originally only offered certifications for commercial projects and GreenPoint Rated was created to address the residential construction void. GreenPoint Rated is designed to be cost effective for the price conscious residential market.
