Energy Calculations
NorthStar Engineering can provide energy calculations for your next residential or commercial project.
What are energy calculations and why do you need them? The Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings were established in 1978 in response to a legislative mandate to reduce California's energy consumption. The standards are updated periodically to allow consideration and possible incorporation
of new energy efficiency technologies and methods.
California's building efficiency standards (along with those for energy efficient appliances) have saved more than $56 billion in electricity and natural gas costs since 1978. It is estimated the standards will save an additional $23 billion by 2013.

In order for us to get started on the energy calculations for your project, we will need the following (at a minimum):
-
Site Plan – showing North Arrow, or if Site Plan is not available, orientation of front of building (i.e.: North)
-
Floor Plans – drawn to scale, dimensioned, and showing window / door placement.
-
Elevations – drawn to scale and showing plate heights.
-
Door and Window Schedules – showing door and window sizes and types (i.e.: solid wood door, double hung windows), unless shown on Floor Plan. Please provide any information on overhangs/awnings (types and sizes) to be used if not shown on Plans.
-
Glazing Types – single/dual pane, vinyl/wood/aluminum frames, and U-values/SHGC (if other than standard) for windows, skylights, and doors (where applicable).
-
Roof Plan – showing overhangs and skylights (if any).
-
Sections and Details – showing floor, roof and wall construction.
Note: This information can be sent electronically (.dwg, .pdf, or .jpg files)
Please print and fill out our energy calculations information sheet which will provide us with the information we need in addition to the items requested above.:
