Energy Modeling Analysis
NorthStar Engineering has several tools to assist in designing an energy efficient building. All of our design projects are started using 3D modeling software. This software allows us to export a file to another program which will provide information such as:
- Estimated energy and cost summary
- Carbon neutral potential
- Photovoltaic potential
- Water usage and cost
- Natural ventilation potential
- Wind energy potential
The 3D modeling program will also allow us to show shadows based on the actual geographical location and orientation of the building. This aids in designing proper shading and orientation for solar gain and lighting.
Another program allows us to do a side-by side comparison of a building with variations in the building materials, orientation, and fuel types. From this we can gain information on the amount of energy used and costs, and with enough information we can provide a life cycle cost analysis.
