Log Home Design
There are several different types of log construction. There are the traditional un-milled logs that simply have the bark stripped off with all the character and imperfections of real logs and then there are milled logs that can be cut to a variety of sizes and shapes. The size and shape of milled logs varies with the manufacturer, however some of the general shapes include full-round logs (similar to un-milled but with standard dimensions), D-shaped (flat on one side and rounded on the other), double round (similar to D-shape but rounded on both sides), and flat on both sides.
Log construction has its own unique challenges and we strongly recommend that anyone you select for the design and engineering have experience with this construction method. Anyone interested in learning more about log construction can purchase a copy of the Log Construction Manual.
