Water Resources
With the dramatic changes in technology and regulations of septic systems seen over the last 10 years, septic systems are being more accurately described as Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS). NorthStar Engineering's Wastewater Department has a dedicated team of professionals specializing in the design of OWTS for residential, commercial and community applications. Our firm has been providing continuous service to public and private clients since 1983. Our project locations cover Northern California from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Oregon border.
NorthStar Engineering's experience in decentralized wastewater system design is quite extensive. With an Onsite Wastewater Department staff of three professionals working full time on OWTS designs for both new construction and repairs, there is over 35 years of combined experience in designing OWTSs that incorporate meeting regulatory requirements for the protection of public health and safety; the use of appropriate technology chosen for the site conditions and permitting requirements; value engineering through exploring available alternatives for treatment and dispersal components and by incorporating design points that increase the serviceability of the systems, lowering operation and maintenance (O&M) costs. Our designs include S.T.E.P. systems, pumping stations, package treatment plants, contained intermittent sand filters, bottomless sand filters, textile filters, recirculating gravel filters, community leachfields, pressure dosed drainfields, drip dispersal, spray fields, sand lined trenches, mounds, soil import systems, etc. Projects include single family residential, multi-family residential, community systems, commercial systems, restaurants, and all types of repair. A brief list of major projects can be found below.
In the course of this work, NorthStar's staff is very familiar with local wastewater regulations for numerous counties as well as the regulations, policies and permitting processes of the Regional Water Quality Control Board. With involvement in COWA and working with Butte County Environmental Health Department with their ordinance, NorthStar's staff stays up to date with the latest information on wastewater regulations and forecasting how new legislation will effect both the design community and dischargers.
