Description: Recent State and Local bond monies have allowed the Butte Campus to construct permanent buildings to replace the many on-campus portables.  The Student & General Services building (SGS) is the 6th building in this spree of construction.  The SGS building is a 3 story 60,000 sf building wedged among a series of existing buildings and a 16’ terraced slope.  The building site features 14’ tall retaining walls, a pedestrian bridge to the second story, and significant site hardscape and sidewalks.  Currently this project is under construction with an estimated completion in fall 2009.

This project began with a complete site topographic survey including tying existing underground utilities and all surrounding facilities.  The design process (run by LPA Saramento) proceeded through various programming stages and was further developed in the Schematic Design Prints.  These were refined and modified with district comments to create the Design Development plans.  Complete submittal to DSA and another round of input from the college district and cross checking from the other sub consultants and architect lead to the final Construction Documents.  NorthStar Engineering’s services included both bid and construction support keeping consistency and ensuring the contractor met district construction standards and conformed to the specifications.
