Mr. Mays is the Survey Manager at NorthStar Engineering, and serves as project manager for a wide variety of surveying projects. He has over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of surveying as related to commercial and residential development, subdivisions, title surveys, construction surveying, and municipal public works projects. Prior to joining NorthStar Engineering, Mr. Mays served as the Deputy Butte County Surveyor where he was responsible for the review and approval of all Subdivision and Parcel Maps, Records of Survey, Lot Line Adjustments processed with the County. Mr. Mays worked for the Butte County Department of Public Works from 2001 until joining NorthStar Engineering in September of 2006. While working for the Butte County Department of Public Works he gained in-depth knowledge of the Subdivision Map Act and the California Land Surveyors Act. He was the primary contact at the Department of Public Works for map and legal description review questions and Subdivision Map Act compliance. He also managed the Butte County Department of Public Works Survey and Right of Way Division having responsible charge for the County’s surveying operations, mapping, and property acquisitions for public improvement projects. Prior to working for Butte County Department of Public Works Mr. Mays was a survey project manager for a multi-discipline professional design firm in the San Francisco Bay area specializing in boundary, design and title surveys as well as campus development for commercial, industrial and high-tech companies. Since coming on board with NorthStar Engineering Mr. Mays has attended numerous seminars on the Subdivision Map Act and land surveying to keep abreast of changes and additions to the State laws. Mr. Mays was a member of the initial beta test group for the Certified Federal Surveyor program developed by the Bureau of Land Management in 2007, and is currently one of a select few Professional Land Surveyors in the nation certified by the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management as a “Certified Federal Surveyor”.
