US Navy - Dixie Valley
This survey was part of an Indefinite Delivery Contract for surveying for the Department of the Navy, Western Division Naval Facilities Engineering Services Command.
This project was part of the expansion of NAS Fallon and was required due to the purchase of numerous private land holdings by the U. S. Navy to expand the practice ranges for naval aircraft. The project included locating the boundaries of approximately 111 parcels located in 44 different sections in 10 different Township and Ranges. There was extensive destruction of original corners caused by mining exploration, mining operations, and old construction activity. Because of this the lines of approximately 40 additional sections were retracted to facilitate the establishment of lost corners. This included nearly an entire Township in one area. This project involved extensive original corner search and old map research to determine old road locations called in the original government notes. The results of these surveys were shown on seven "Record of Survey" maps filed at the Churchill County, Nevada Recorder's office. Costs of survey $225,000.
In addition to the boundary surveys photogrammetric topographic mapping was completed for each parcel. Horizontal and vertical control was established and flight crosses were set for each parcel area. Conventional topographic details were collected and combined with this aerial mapping.
All mapping including the topographic mapping was completed in 1983 Nevada West Zone state plane coordinates established from USGS control monuments in the area.
NorthStar Engineering's responsibilities and methodology included the following:
- Research with the BLM to obtain all pertinent Public Lands survey notes and plats and maps on all townships involved along with any mining claim and patent information.
- Deed research of all parcels and adjoining parcels involved along with road and state highway right-of-way research.
- Research the Churchill County recorders office records and maps and mineral claims.
- Researched historic information in the area regarding old road locations, historic building locations and topographic features.
- Research and discussions with local surveyors in the area.
- Corner search using preliminary search locations and then from calculations from found corners.
- Horizontal and vertical control surveys to locate the found corners.
- The reestablishment of lost corners and the setting of the required parcel corners (approximately 150 corners in all)
- Filed the above referenced Record Of Survey Maps
