Yosemite National Park - Wawona Tunnel Primary Electrical Service Replacement
Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, Inc. was retained by Yosemite National Park to provide design services for the project known as A/E Design Services Yosemite National Park, Modification No. 7 Wawona Tunnel Primary Electrical Service Replacement. Map Associates Inc. (DBA) NorthStar Engineering was retained by Kennedy/Jenks to perform the field survey and prepare a topographic map to be used as the base for the design of an underground 12 kV high-voltage duct bank from Pohono Bridge on South Loop Drive to the west end of the Wawona Tunnel, then on up to Turtle Back Dome.
The project area included approximately 4,500 feet of Wawaona Road, a 0.3 +/- acre area at the west portal of Wawona Tunnel, and a 0.5+/- acre area at the top of Turtle Back Dome.
NorthStar Engineering's responsibilities and methodology included the following:
- Tie into the existing horizontal and vertical control network on the valley floor. Due to the tall trees in the project area, horizontal control was established by conventional traversing methods. Vertical control was established by a conventional level loop.
- A topographic survey was performed to locate all roadway features, visible utility features, buildings, large boulders, and first row of trees fronting the roadway, and trees within the project areas. The topographic survey was preformed by conventional methods utilizing our Topcon GPT 8203A Total Station.
- The topographic survey data was digitally compiled in AutoCad utilizing Land Development Desktop for Civil 3D 2008, conforming to the National Park Service drafting and layering standards.
- NorthStar's surveyors merged the compiled topographic data with existing topographic data supplied by Yosemite National Park to create a seamless base map for the entire project limits.
Total survey contract costs were $38,090.00.
