Tom Harris bio

Tom Harris, PLS

Senior Surveyor

Tom Harris joined NorthStar in February 2025 as a Senior Surveyor. Originally from Orland, California, Tom began his journey in surveying at a young age working alongside his father, Charles Harris, Jr. He holds a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Chico, and a degree in Business Economics from Willamette University. His unique blend of field experience and business education brings a well-rounded perspective to his role at NorthStar. Tom enjoys living in the Chico area, where the community offers both professional opportunities and a small-town sense of connection.

Tom was drawn to NorthStar for the chance to grow his skill set, explore emerging technologies, and collaborate with a passionate, multidisciplinary team. He is currently involved in projects for long-standing agricultural clients such as Crain Orchards Inc. and Capay Farms Inc., as well as new developments like the ALTA survey and site planning for Richland Village. Tom values the collaborative culture at NorthStar, where diverse perspectives, shared knowledge, and ongoing mentorship enhance every project.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys time with his wife and children, especially attending school events and sports games. A former college football player and coach at Butte College, he remains a dedicated fan of the sport. Surveying began as a family tradition, but Tom was drawn in by the unique nature of the work—combining historical research, legal analysis, and fieldwork to solve complex boundary issues. Known for his love of old maps and documents, Tom is inspired by the stories hidden in the land and its records.
